The reserve is rich in wildlife with an abundance of rare northern specialist species such as the Grevy\u2019s zebra, Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and the beisa oryx (also referred to as Samburu Special Five). The park provides a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs and bushbucks among others. While Tsavo West is the most developed and has a volcanic landscape, Tsavo East has large herds of elephant. Millions of flamingoes feed from the alkaline lake of 60km\u00b2. Around the lake are acacia woodlands, grassland and rocky hillsides. Buffalo, lion and leopard sightings are excellent in the park, which is also a rhino sanctuary. The stretch, filled with hot water springs that supply water to a small stream at the floor of the gorge, can take between 3-6 hours to trek.
